Suede footwear can often be regarded as a no go choice for winter and wet weather conditions. However caring for your suede shoes or boots is an easy process and can allow you to wear them throughout the year.
Due to the fine nap of these leathers extra care should be taken when cleaning and caring for your suede shoes. Gentle use of a suede brush with a nubuck / suede cleaner will remove most stains and help to smooth out any wear or texture that is scuffed in the wrong direction. Although we would recommend wearing your suede shoes in favourable weather conditions there will be occasions where you will step out in wintery or wet pavements. If your suede shoes or suede boots get wet, let them dry naturally and then brush them gently with a suede brush.
Nubuck and suede leather cannot be guaranteed as entirely colourfast and therefore some loss of colour may occur on very rare occasions. There are options such as high quality waterproof sprays with colour, however these may not match the true colour of your suede shoes as closely as you would wish so pick and use wisely.
If your suede shoes or boots also feature leather soles then be aware of certain conditions. Leather soled shoes are natural products which offer a breathable, flexible sole. Because of its porous nature leather soles will let in water therefore we do not recommend excessive use in wet weather. You should wear these shoes with leather soles in dry conditions on numerous occasions to help to fuse the leather and wear it in to help prevent water coming through. After a period of time the sole will wear even under normal conditions, making it necessary for the sole to be repaired.
